Preperation
- Combine garlic, lime juice, olive oil, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper in a dish or bag. Add steak and marinate for 30 minutes at room temperature or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
- Toss shrimp with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until coated; set aside.
Cooking
- Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Sear the steak for 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare; remove, cover with foil, and let rest for 5-10 minutes.
Assembly
- Add seasoned shrimp to the same hot skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until pink and opaque.
- Warm tortillas over a gas flame, in a microwave, or a dry skillet until pliable.
- Thinly slice the rested steak against the grain for tenderness.
- Fill warm tortillas with sliced steak and shrimp, then top with red onion, cilantro, avocado, salsa, and optionally sour cream or crema. Serve immediately with lime wedges.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider grilling the steak and shrimp instead of pan-searing. Adjust the spice level to your preference by adding more chili powder or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the marinade and shrimp seasoning. Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the steak or shrimp; cook in batches if necessary to ensure a good sear and even cooking.
