Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb large or jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined, tail on or off
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 2 medium carrots, peeled and sliced diagonally
  • 1 large bell pepper (any color), deseeded and sliced into strips
  • 1 cup snow peas or snap peas, trimmed
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or Tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish (optional)

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Steamer basket
  • Large skillet or wok

Method

Preparation
  1. Chop all vegetables to similar sizes for even cooking.
Steaming
  1. Steam harder vegetables like broccoli and carrots for 3-4 minutes. Then, add softer vegetables such as bell pepper and snow peas and steam for another 2-4 minutes until tender-crisp.
Shrimp Preparation
  1. Pat the shrimp dry and season with salt and pepper.
Cooking Shrimp
  1. Sauté minced garlic and red pepper flakes in olive oil. Cook the shrimp in batches until pink and opaque.
Finishing Touches
  1. Combine steamed vegetables with cooked shrimp, then toss with lemon juice, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
Serving
  1. Adjust seasoning, garnish with fresh herbs, and serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure not to overcook the shrimp, as they can become tough. Cooking vegetables in batches ensures they retain their vibrant color and texture. Adjust red pepper flakes for desired spiciness.
