  • 1 medium apple (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji recommended) peeled, cored, and diced
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup or honey to taste
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon butter or coconut oil optional, for sautéing apples

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Combine oats, liquid, and salt in a saucepan, bring to a boil, then simmer for 5-7 minutes until creamy.
  2. Meanwhile, melt butter or coconut oil in a skillet, add diced apples and cinnamon, and sauté for 3-5 minutes until tender-crisp.
  3. Stir the sautéed apples into the cooked oatmeal, and mix in maple syrup or honey if desired.
  4. Ladle the oatmeal into a bowl, add optional toppings, and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, toast your oats lightly in the saucepan before adding the liquid. Adjust sweetness to your preference, and feel free to experiment with other fruits like pears or berries.
