Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1.5 lbs Sirloin Steak (or flank/flat iron)
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
Marinade
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce (low sodium)
  • 2 Tablespoons Honey
  • 1 Tablespoon Rice Vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (optional)
For Cooking & Garnish
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil (for cooking)
  • Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
  • Sliced Green Onions (for garnish)

Equipment

  • Paper towels
  • Medium bowl
  • Whisk
  • Large skillet or cast-iron pan

Method

Preparation
  1. Pat the sirloin steak dry with paper towels and cut it into 1-inch bite-sized cubes.
Marinade
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together minced garlic, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and optional red pepper flakes until the honey dissolves.
Marinate Steak
  1. Add the cubed steak to the marinade, toss to coat, and let it sit for two minutes while you heat your pan.
Cook Steak
  1. Heat olive or vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering, then add steak bites in a single layer without overcrowding the pan.
  2. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, turning to achieve an even sear and caramelization.
Reduce Sauce & Serve
  1. After the steak is cooked, continue cooking any pan liquid for another minute or two, stirring until the sauce thickens and coats the steak.
  2. Transfer to a platter, then garnish generously with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

For best results, do not overcrowd the pan when cooking the steak to ensure a proper sear. Cook in batches if necessary.
