Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 large bag sturdy tortilla chips
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (Mexican blend, cheddar, or Monterey Jack)

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • large baking sheet

Method

Cooking Instructions
  1. In a large skillet, cook your choice of ground beef or turkey over medium-high heat until it is fully browned and no pink remains.
  2. Drain any excess fat from the skillet, then stir in the taco seasoning and 1/2 cup of water, simmering for 5-7 minutes until the liquid evaporates and the meat is well-coated.
  3. Spread a single layer of tortilla chips on a large baking sheet.
  4. Evenly spoon the seasoned ground meat over the chip layer and then generously sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.
  5. For the oven, bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the chips are slightly toasted; for microwave, heat on high for 1-2 minutes until cheese is melted, being careful not to overcook.
  6. Carefully remove the nachos from the oven or microwave and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

For an extra kick, add some sliced jalapeños before baking, or serve with a dollop of sour cream and salsa for a complete nacho experience. You can also customize by adding black beans or corn for more texture and flavor.
