Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb (450g) 93/7 lean ground turkey
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups water or vegetable broth (for rice)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce optional
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup vegetable broth or water (for turkey mixture)
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas, carrots, or bell peppers optional
Garnish
  • Sliced green onions optional
  • Sesame seeds optional
  • Chili flakes or sriracha optional

Equipment

  • pot
  • large skillet or wok
  • fork
  • spoon

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. Combine rice with water or broth in a pot, bring to a boil, then simmer covered for 15-20 minutes until liquid is absorbed.
  2. Remove from heat, let sit for 5 minutes, then fluff the rice with a fork.
  3. While rice cooks, brown the ground turkey in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up and draining excess fat.
  4. Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the turkey and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  5. Stir in soy sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), sesame oil, and vegetable broth or water. If using, add frozen vegetables and cook until heated through.
  6. Divide cooked rice into bowls, spoon turkey mixture over rice, and garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, or sriracha if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can marinate the turkey in soy sauce and sesame oil for 15-20 minutes before cooking. Adjust the amount of chili flakes or sriracha to your preferred spice level.
