Preparation
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet or shallow baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.
- Stir in 1/4 cup ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until combined.
Mixing and Baking
- Add ground beef, breadcrumbs, and finely chopped onion to the bowl with wet ingredients.
- Gently mix with your hands until just combined, forming an oblong loaf on the prepared baking sheet.
- Spread an additional 2-3 tablespoons of ketchup over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and the top is caramelized.
Resting
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing to allow juices to redistribute for a more tender and moist meatloaf.
Notes
For best results, avoid overmixing the meatloaf mixture to ensure a tender texture. You can also add finely diced bell peppers or grated carrots for extra flavor and nutrients.
