Pecan Layer
  • 2 cups Pecans chopped
Sweet Sauce
  • 1 cup Butter (2 sticks), unsalted, melted
  • 1 cup Light Brown Sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup Corn Syrup (light or dark)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
Cake Topping
  • 1 Yellow Cake Mix (15.25-ounce) box
  • 1/2 cup Water

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Assemble the Cake
  1. Evenly scatter the chopped pecans across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  3. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the pecans, spreading gently to cover.
  4. Evenly sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the pecan and sauce layer without stirring.
  5. Gently pour 1/2 cup of water evenly over the dry cake mix, again avoiding stirring.
Bake and Serve
  1. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the pecan layer is bubbly and set.
  2. Let the cake cool for at least 15-20 minutes before serving.

Notes

This recipe is incredibly easy and a great option when you need a quick dessert that tastes delicious. Ensure you don't stir the layers together before baking to achieve the characteristic "dump cake" texture.
