Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a loaf pan or baking sheet by lightly greasing or lining it with parchment paper.
Mixing and Forming
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, milk, 2 tablespoons ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Gently mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan, pressing it into an even shape, or form a loaf on the baking sheet.
Glazing and Baking
- In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 6 tablespoons ketchup, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard until smooth.
- Spread the glaze evenly over the meatloaf.
- Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
Resting and Serving
- Remove from oven and let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes.
Notes
Avoid overmixing the meatloaf mixture to ensure a tender texture. Resting the meatloaf after baking helps retain its juices and makes for easier slicing.
