Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1.5 lbs 80/20 Ground Beef
  • 1 large Yellow Onion thinly sliced
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper thinly sliced
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper thinly sliced
  • 8 oz Sliced Mushrooms
  • 4 cloves Garlic minced
  • 6 Hoagie Rolls or Sub Buns
  • 6 slices Provolone Cheese
  • 6 slices White American Cheese
Sauce & Seasoning
  • 3 tbsp Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil
  • Salt and Black Pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Beef Broth optional, for moisture
  • Cheese Sauce optional, for drizzling

Equipment

  • Large skillet or cast-iron pan
  • Lid or foil

Method

Preparation
  1. Thinly slice the onion, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, and mushrooms, then mince the garlic.
Cook Beef and Vegetables
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, add ground beef, and cook until browned (5-7 minutes), then drain excess grease and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Add 2 more tablespoons of oil to the same skillet, then cook sliced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms until softened and caramelized (10-12 minutes), adding minced garlic during the last minute.
  3. Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables, stir in Worcestershire sauce and optional beef broth, and allow the liquid to reduce slightly, then season to taste.
Assemble & Serve
  1. Divide the beef and veggie mixture into 6 portions in the skillet, top each with provolone and American cheese, and cover for 1-2 minutes until melted.
  2. While cheese melts, lightly toast the hoagie rolls in an oven, dry skillet, or broiler until golden.
  3. Scoop the cheesy beef mixture into the toasted hoagie rolls, drizzle with optional cheese sauce, and serve immediately.

Notes

For an extra kick, try adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the vegetables while they cook. If you don't have hoagie rolls, any sturdy bread like sub buns or even ciabatta can work well. The beef broth adds moisture and flavor, so don't skip it if you prefer a juicier sandwich.
