Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients for the meatloaf: ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, 1/4 cup ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Mix the ingredients together using your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared loaf pan and gently shape it into a loaf, or form a free-form loaf if using a baking sheet.
- Spread a thin layer of extra ketchup (about 2-3 tablespoons) over the top of the meatloaf.
Baking
- Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) when checked with an instant-read thermometer.
- Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For best results, do not overmix the meatloaf mixture, as this can lead to a tough texture. Letting the meatloaf rest after baking helps the juices redistribute, resulting in a more tender and flavorful outcome.
