- Place peeled and chopped potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, add salt, and bring to a boil; then simmer until fork-tender (15-20 minutes).
- While potatoes cook, gently warm the whole milk in a saucepan or microwave without boiling.
- Drain cooked potatoes thoroughly and return them to the hot pot to evaporate excess moisture.
- Mash potatoes until smooth using a potato ricer or masher, being careful not to over-mash.
- Add softened butter, warmed milk, salt, pepper, cream cheese, and mayonnaise to the mashed potatoes.

Notes
For an extra touch of richness, you can briefly saute a clove of minced garlic in a tablespoon of butter before adding it to the mashed potatoes.
