Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 12-16 ounces cooked sausage e.g., kielbasa, andouille, or chicken sausage, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 1 pound large shrimp peeled and deveined, tails on or off
  • 1 cup large bell pepper any color, cored and sliced into strips
  • 1 cup medium onion sliced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes halved
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped; a squeeze of fresh lemon juice Optional garnish

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Cast-iron pan

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat until hot.
  2. Add sliced sausage to the skillet and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and crispy. Remove sausage and set aside, leaving rendered fat in the pan.
  3. Add sliced bell pepper and onion to the same skillet; sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in broccoli florets and minced garlic; cook for another 3-4 minutes until broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp.
  5. Return cooked sausage to the skillet with vegetables. Add halved cherry tomatoes, Italian seasoning, and smoked paprika, then stir well to combine.
  6. Add peeled and deveined shrimp to the skillet; cook for 2-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pink and opaque.
  7. Season generously with salt and pepper. Optionally, squeeze fresh lemon juice and garnish with fresh herbs.
  8. Serve your delicious skillet immediately and enjoy!

Notes

This recipe is highly versatile; feel free to customize with your favorite vegetables or protein. To save time, pre-slice your vegetables or use pre-cut options from the grocery store. Adjust the spice level by adding a pinch of red pepper flakes with the other seasonings. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp, as they can become rubbery quickly. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice at the end brightens all the flavors!
