  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning (or homemade blend: 1 tbsp chili powder, 1 tsp ground cumin, 1/2 tsp smoked paprika, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp onion powder, 1/4 tsp dried oregano, pinch of cayenne)
  • 1/2 cup water (or beef broth)
  • 8-12 hard or soft taco shells
Optional Toppings

  • diced tomatoes
  • shredded cheddar cheese
  • sour cream
  • salsa

Equipment

  • large skillet

Method

Cooking Instructions
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef and chopped onion, breaking up the beef until browned and the onion is softened (5-7 minutes).
  2. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
  3. Reduce heat to medium, then stir in minced garlic and taco seasoning, cooking for one minute until fragrant.
  4. Add water and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the liquid has mostly evaporated and flavors are blended.
  5. While the beef simmers, warm your taco shells according to package directions or by briefly toasting/microwaving.
  6. Set out the warm beef filling, taco shells, and all your desired toppings for assembling.

Notes

For a healthier option, use lean ground turkey instead of beef. Customize toppings to your preference, including guacamole, jalapeƱos, or cilantro.
