Ingredients
  

Pecan Base
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
Cake Topping
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Make Pecan Base
  1. Pour ½ cup of melted butter into the prepared baking dish. Whisk in brown sugar, corn syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth, then stir in 1 cup of chopped pecans.
Add Cake Mix
  1. Evenly sprinkle the entire package of dry yellow cake mix over the pecan mixture; do not stir.
Top with Butter and Pecans
  1. Drizzle the remaining ½ cup of melted butter over the dry cake mix. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of chopped pecans over the top.
Bake
  1. Bake for 45-55 minutes until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the cakey layer comes out mostly clean.
Cool and Serve
  1. Allow the dump cake to cool for at least 15-20 minutes before serving.

Notes

For an extra touch, serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
