Classic Mini Grilled Cheese Hearts

These adorable mini grilled cheese hearts are perfect for a special snack or party appetizer. Made with sandwich bread, butter, and your favorite melting cheese, they are easy to prepare and irresistible.

  • 8 slices sandwich bread white bread or brioche recommended
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • 8 slices melting cheese American, cheddar, Monterey Jack, or mild provolone

Equipment

  • heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • non-stick skillet or griddle

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Using a 2-3 inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut heart shapes from each slice of bread.
  2. Spread softened butter generously on one side of each bread heart.
  3. Place a cheese slice on the unbuttered side of half the bread hearts, then top with another bread heart, buttered-side up.
  4. Cook the mini sandwiches in a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  5. Serve immediately while the grilled cheese hearts are warm and the cheese is gooey.

Notes

For extra fun, sprinkle a pinch of garlic powder or paprika on the buttered side before grilling. These also make great party appetizers!
