Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Spread the torn bread cubes evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- If using, sprinkle the cooked breakfast meat over the bread cubes, then evenly distribute ¾ cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the meat and bread.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Carefully pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, meat, and cheese, pressing down gently with a fork to ensure the bread soaks it up.
- Sprinkle the remaining ¾ cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the casserole.
Baking
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the casserole is set in the center and golden brown on top, and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes.
- Slice and serve warm.
Notes
For best results, allow the bread to soak in the egg mixture for at least 10-15 minutes before baking. You can also prepare this casserole the night before and refrigerate it, then bake it in the morning.
