Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb medium to large shrimp, fresh or frozen (thawed), peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning (pre-made or homemade blend of chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, pinch of cayenne)
  • 1 lime, fresh, for juice
  • 12 small corn or flour tortillas (street taco size recommended)
Toppings
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage or lettuce
  • 1 large avocado, diced or 1/2 cup guacamole
  • 1/2 cup pico de gallo or salsa
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 tbsp Cotija cheese, crumbled optional
  • Hot sauce optional

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Bowl
  • Paper towels
  • Tortilla warmer (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Thaw and pat shrimp dry, then toss with olive oil and taco seasoning to coat.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and cook shrimp for 1-2 minutes per side until pink; squeeze lime juice over cooked shrimp.
Warm Tortillas
  1. Warm tortillas using a microwave, dry skillet, or gas flame until pliable.
  2. Keep warmed tortillas in a warmer or wrapped in a towel to maintain flexibility.
Assembly and Serving
  1. Layer warm tortillas with cabbage, shrimp, avocado, pico de gallo, sour cream, cilantro, and optional Cotija cheese or hot sauce.
  2. Serve immediately and enjoy customizing your tacos.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the shrimp for 10-15 minutes after seasoning. Adjust the amount of taco seasoning to your spice preference. If you don't have Cotija cheese, crumbled feta cheese can be a good substitute.
