Ingredients
  

Apple Filling
  • 6 medium-sized apples
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Oat Crumble Topping
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • tiny pinch salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter cut into small pieces

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease an 8x8 or 9x9 inch baking dish.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into ½-inch thick pieces, then place them in a large bowl.
Apple Filling
  1. Add granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, and optional lemon juice to the apples; toss to coat evenly.
  2. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
Oat Crumble Topping
  1. In the same bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Cut cold unsalted butter into small pieces and incorporate it into the dry mixture using your fingertips or a pastry blender until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the spiced apples in the baking dish.
Baking and Serving
  1. Bake for 35-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly and tender.
  2. Remove from the oven and let it cool for at least 15-20 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.

Notes

For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples to balance the flavors. If desired, serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
