Ingredients

Dough
  • 1 packet Active Dry Yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 cup Warm Water (105-115°F/40-46°C)
  • 2.5-3 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil plus more for greasing
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar (optional)
Toppings
  • 0.5 cup Pizza Sauce (for 1-2 pizzas)
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese shredded (low-moisture, whole milk)
  • 0.5 cup Toppings of Choice e.g., pepperoni, mushrooms

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • Pizza stone or steel
  • Pizza peel
  • Cutting board

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and optional sugar in warm water, then let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture, then mix until a shaggy dough forms, and knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Lightly oil the mixing bowl, place the dough in it, coat with oil, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
  4. Place a pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven and preheat to its highest setting (500-550°F / 260-290°C) for 45-60 minutes.
  5. Gently stretch the risen dough into your desired pizza shape on a lightly floured surface or parchment paper, resting for 5-10 minutes if it resists.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Spoon a thin layer of pizza sauce onto the stretched dough, leaving a border for the crust.
  2. Add mozzarella cheese first, then your preferred toppings, being careful not to overload the pizza.
  3. Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated stone or steel using a pizza peel or by sliding the parchment.
  4. Bake for 8-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly caramelized.
  5. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it rest on a cutting board for 2-3 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For an extra crispy crust, ensure your oven and pizza stone are thoroughly preheated. Avoid over-handling the dough to keep it light and airy. Experiment with different cheeses and fresh herbs for varied flavors.
