Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 12 ounces good quality chocolate, chopped (dark, milk, or a mix – your preference!) about 2 cups
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1-2 tablespoons unsalted butter optional, for extra richness and shine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or other flavorings like orange zest, a dash of liqueur
  • salt enhances chocolate flavor

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Double Boiler
  • Whisk
  • Rubber Spatula
  • Fondue Pot
  • Fondue Burner

Method

Preparation
  1. Chop chocolate bars into small, even pieces so they melt quickly and evenly.
  2. Gently heat the heavy cream and optional butter in a small saucepan or double boiler over medium-low heat until simmering.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat, add chopped chocolate and a pinch of salt to the hot cream, and let it sit for 2-3 minutes to soften.
  4. Stir the mixture with a whisk or spatula until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth; if needed, return briefly to very low heat while stirring.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract or any other chosen flavorings.
  6. Pour the melted chocolate into your fondue pot, light the burner to keep it warm, and arrange dippers around the pot for serving.

Notes

For best results, use a high-quality chocolate as it will greatly impact the flavor and texture of your fondue. You can also experiment with different dippers such as strawberries, banana slices, marshmallows, pound cake cubes, or pretzels.
