Ingredients

Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
Add-ins
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Equipment

  • large bowl
  • electric mixer
  • baking sheets
  • wire rack

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
Mixing and Baking
  1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  2. Fold in the chocolate chips by hand until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  3. Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, ensuring enough space for spreading.
  4. Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft.
Cooling
  1. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, do not overbake the cookies. They should look slightly underdone in the center when you take them out of the oven, as they will continue to firm up as they cool.
