Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Filling
  • ½ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives minced

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and cream cheese until smooth.
  2. Gradually add flour, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper, mixing until a soft dough forms; do not overmix.
  3. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Roll dough into 1-inch balls, place on baking sheets, and create a shallow indentation in the center of each.
  2. Combine shredded cheddar cheese and fresh chives in a small bowl.
  3. Spoon the cheddar and chive filling into the indentations of the dough balls.
  4. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and cheese is bubbly and melted.
  5. Cool slightly on baking sheets before transferring to a wire rack; serve warm.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter and cream cheese are at room temperature for smooth mixing. These appetizers can be made ahead and reheated gently.
