Sauce
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar (240ml)
  • 1/4 cup water (60ml)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method
 

Vinegar Sauce
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine apple cider vinegar, water, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring until the sugar and salt dissolve, which takes only a few minutes.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and cool completely to allow flavors to meld before using.

Notes

This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. For best flavor, make it a few hours ahead or even a day in advance to allow the flavors to deepen.
