Preparation
- Gently mix ground beef with salt and pepper, then form into 6-8 oval or round patties about 3/4-inch thick, avoiding overworking the meat.
- Sear patties in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side until browned, then remove and set aside.
- Slice the onion and cook in the same skillet until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C), arrange patties in a 9x13-inch baking dish, and scatter softened onions evenly over them.
Cooking
- Whisk together gravy mix and water in a separate bowl according to package directions, ensuring no lumps.
- Pour the prepared gravy over the patties and onions in the baking dish, then cover tightly with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes until gravy thickens and patties are cooked through.
- Let the bake rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the gravy to set slightly.
Notes
For best results, do not overmix the ground beef to keep the patties tender. Serve with mashed potatoes or egg noodles to soak up the delicious gravy.
