Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 9 cups Chex cereal
  • 2 cups white chocolate chips
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1-2 teaspoons cherry extract
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • red food coloring optional

Equipment

  • large sturdy bowl
  • large zip-top bag
  • microwave-safe bowl
  • rubber spatula
  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper

Method

Preparation
  1. Place Chex cereal in a large, sturdy bowl and prepare a large zip-top bag for later.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt white chocolate chips and softened cream cheese in 30-second intervals until smooth, stirring well after each interval.
  3. Stir cherry extract into the melted mixture, and add optional red food coloring until you reach your desired pink shade.
  4. Pour the cherry cheesecake mixture over the cereal and gently fold with a rubber spatula until evenly coated.
  5. Transfer the coated cereal to the zip-top bag, add powdered sugar, and seal the bag with some air inside.
  6. Gently toss and shake the bag until all cereal pieces are thoroughly coated in powdered sugar.
  7. Spread the puppy chow onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and let it cool and set for at least 15-20 minutes, or longer in the refrigerator until firm.

Notes

For best results, make sure your cream cheese is softened to ensure it melts smoothly with the white chocolate. If you prefer a less sweet puppy chow, you can reduce the amount of powdered sugar or skip the red food coloring if you don't want the pink hue.
