Apple & Cinnamon Puff Pastry Turnovers

Ingredients
  

Pastry
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (all-butter recommended) thawed
Filling
  • 2 medium-sized apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) peeled, cored, and finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar adjust to apple sweetness
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg optional
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
For Assembly and Topping
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg whisked with 1 tablespoon water for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar for dusting

Method
 

Prepare Apple Filling
  1. In a medium bowl, combine diced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and lemon juice; toss to coat evenly.
Prepare Puff Pastry
  1. Thaw the puff pastry sheet according to package directions, then unfold on a lightly floured surface or parchment paper.
Assemble Turnovers
  1. Cut the pastry sheet into 4 equal squares. Spoon apple filling onto one half of each square, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
  2. Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling to form a triangle. Press and crimp the edges with a fork to seal securely.
Bake Turnovers
  1. Transfer turnovers to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush tops with egg wash and cut two small slits in each to vent.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 18-22 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
Cool and Serve
  1. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar just before serving warm.

Notes

For best results, use all-butter puff pastry. Adjust sugar in the apple filling based on the sweetness of your apples. Turnovers are best served warm.
